Ground Zero

A personal level project in progress—where should I start?

  This is an exploration of branchs of my prefer game genres: a parkour + zombie shooting game. For this, I am using the Hammer++ editor, which is compatible with Gmod content.

  I don't intend to spend a lot of time recreating parkour and weapon systems from scratch, so I chose to build the levels using existing resources gold mine from the STEAM Workshop.

I mainly utilized two Workshop items: the well-established parkour mod BEATRUN and TFA_Overly Cool Weapons.

  I aim to provide an experience similar to Dying Light + Titanfall 2, focusing on high-speed parkour combined with fast-paced shooting as the core gameplay. The general backstory involves a runner escaping the city during a zombie outbreak. As the city is ground zero, the escape involves not only evading zombies but also dealing with the military and police, who have orders to "Exterminate all"

  I spent some time learning how to import Workshop content into the Hammer editor, testing level scripts, and manage interactions and lighting rendering within the editor, especially with content based on Half-Life 2.

 

During this project, I am also learning Lua scripting. Currently, I am testing various elements and will soon begin constructing the first version of the blockout.
